Assignment 1 - Proposal (2)

After taking my lecturer's comment into consideration, I have decided to explain my idea in a more elaborated way.

What I replied back :

Jack is actually a creature with wings
The character wont be moving..It will just stay static-
The balloons will be floating from the ground to the top.. I plan to make the balloons appear at random..Something like this

Reference link :  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6whF1SWBTl4
and using colour random to make the balloon colour come out at random

This is also a rough sketch of how the In game design will look like

Lecturer's Feedback :

The game play is almost the same as the exercise in class. why don't u make it so that players have to drag and drop the balloon according to a certain sequence? maybe you can have the character instructing jack what colors to pick. say the 1st.. the character will request blue, orang and green.. player have to drag those colors to Jack. Once that's completed, the character will instruct another color sequence... and so on. at least the game will not too straight forward. Special items that can make the balloon fly up slower for few seconds. Timer boost items.. etc..  Bad items that if you select/click on it will pop all the balloons..   items that will make it fly up faster...  many elements that can add challenges to the game.

Assignment 1-Proposal

Before we could start working on our Game Design,
We had to come up with a proposal to be shown to our lecturer
This is the idea I came up with :

Storyline
It's Sally's birthday today. She's been very busy making preparations for her party this coming afternoon. Sally rings up her friend Jack to ask him a favour. She asked him to help her buy a bunch of balloons from a vendor at the park for the party. Jack then goes to the vendor and buys a whole bunch of balloons for her. It was a really windy day and Jack accidentally let go of the balloons due to strong winds. Jack felt panicked at that moment. He decides to start chasing for the balloons. Discover out how Jack managed to save the balloons from flying away!
Gameplay
1) Jack will fly and starts chasing the balloons
2) Jack must only choose the blue and yellow balloons as those are Sally's favourite colour
3) Drag and drop the balloon into the basket that Jack is holding

Stage 1
- Collect 5x blue balloons -
-Collect 5x yellow balloons-
Time given = 20 seconds

Stage 2
-Collect 5x blue balloons-
-Collect 5x yellow balloons-
Time given = 20 seconds
Additional : Woodpecker will be flying around trying to burst the balloons.

Luck : If collect star + 3seconds to the game time

Lecturer's Feedback

How does Jack fly?

The balloon will just float on the screen right? do players see all 10 balloons or does it appear 1 by 1? if it appears 1 by 1, how will it appears?
Still, the game play ideas doesn't really expand much on the current mechanics taught in class.

Come up with another alternate idea. Play some games to get more ideas.

Elements of Game Design

Get Em Wheel Chair by Tan Shu Man

Get Em Wheel Chair is a game design created by Tan Shu Man. It is about a Granny wanting to cross a broken bridge to the other side in order to retrieve her wheelchair.

5 ELEMENTS OF GAME DESIGN

1.Challenge

The challenge of this game is to drag 5 flying boxes to complete the bridge. Some of the rectangle
boxes will disappear once it's touched which makes it quite challenging to complete the game.

2. Strategy

The strategy to this game is that players should be alert while dragging the boxes. This is because only the green rectangle boxes in Stage one will be usable & the yellow one's will disappear upon clicking it. As for Stage 2, players should be quick while dragging boxes because the boxes will disappear at random when you click it.

3.Chance

Players are given chance to click another box even if they choose a wrong one before. However, players need to be quick if not the Granny will reach the edge and fall down if there's no platform for her to walk.

4.Choice

The choice element for "Get Em Wheel Chair" is being able to choose which rectangle box you want to drag. Choosing the correct box will enable players to continue fixing the bridge. However, if players choose the wrong box, the box will disappear & players will have to be quick and choose another box.

5.Luck

As for the luck element, I think that it applies  to the boxes. At stage 2, players require luck in order to choose the correct box. This is said because the boxes will randomly disappear when clicking it.
